West Nile Virus: Germany is presently not at risk
In a joint study scientists of the Robert Koch Institute (Berlin), the
Paul Ehrlich Institute (Langen) and the Bernhard Nocht Institute (Hamburg)
screened samples of 3.000 birds, 200 horses, 100 patiens with neurological
symptoms and 15.000 blood donors. No acute West Nile virus (WNV) infections
were detected. Moreover, BNI scientists developed a specific WNV antibody
test which can be used for further screenings.
