The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany,
is seeking
Postgraduate Scientists for Independent
Junior Groups
Candidates are expected to have an excellent research record and to be
willing to contribute to one of the three major research areas of the
Bernhard Nocht Institute (BNI):
- Cellular and molecular biology of human pathogens relevant to tropical
diseases
- Host response to infectious agents and its role in protection and
pathology
- Disease-oriented approach to pathogenesis and pathology
Successful candidates will be able to continue or develop an independent
research programme.
BNI offers state-of-the-art research facilities and a supportive interdisciplinary
environment including established models for malaria, leishmaniasis, amoebiasis
and worm diseases. A biosafety level 3 insectary will be available in
2008. Epidemiological and clinical studies may be conducted in conjunction
with the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) in Ghana, West
Africa. Collaborations with KCCR and other research groups at BNI are
highly encouraged.
The level of appointment depends on the qualification and experience
of the successful candidate.
Younger postdocs are offered their own laboratory in association with
one of the existing 14 research groups. Experienced postdocs will be offered
an independent junior research group position including a five-year grant
for personnel, equipment and consumables. The starting date is flexible.

The Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine,
Hamburg, invites applications for the position of a
Research Fellow
to join the clinical research group in infectious
diseases / tropical medicine.
The position would be suitable for a candidate post MRCP, experience in
clinical research/clinical trials would be an advantage. The successful
candidate would be encouraged to develop his/her own research direction.
The BNI is a non-university
institution, member of the Leibniz Association and offers excellent working
conditions in an interdisciplinary scientific environment.
