Research Group May (Infectious Disease Epidemiology)
PD Dr. Jürgen May
Phone +49-(0)40-42818-369
Fax: -512

Major topics of research:

The Research Group Infection Epidemiology has been established at BNI in November 2004. The aim is to link overlapping areas of epidemiology, molecular biology, and infection medicine. Focal points are infection epidemiology and genetic molecular epidemiology of malaria, helminth infections, and other tropical diseases. A superior aim is to join basic science objectives and implementation of control measures in the community. An evaluation of intermittent preventive treatment of infants (IPTi) with Sulfadoxin-Pyrimethamine as a mean of malaria control has started recently. Further randomized clinical trials of treatment and control of malaria and other tropical diseases will follow.
